Big, bigger, biggest LED LCD OLED mounted on the wall.
The market for TV LCD Plasma screens is still evolving. Whereas 30 years ago it was normal to buy a CRT TV that was the central focus of the living room and weighed only 60 kilos, today the trend is to buy the largest and flattest possible screen and mount it on the wall.
An LCD LED UHD or nowadays OLED and QLED screen no longer only serves to watch TV programs. The demanding consumer now wants an experience, a multimedia experience.
Use your screen as an ambiance enhancer in your home, display a burning fireplace, or project a still life.
Due to the many HDMI ports, many devices can be connected to a TV.
Some examples:
- A Google Chromecast
- An Apple TV so you can stream videos from your phone
- A PlayStation or Xbox
- Horizon box from Ziggo or KPN TV
The large screens from brands like Samsung, LG, and Philips also have an audio output so you can route the sound through a soundbar (we have special mounting brackets for this) or your surround system.
4 important points to consider when mounting a TV.
- What type of wall is it, brick, drywall, wood, concrete?
- Cable management, what will you connect and where will you place the cables
- The height of the TV
- Which wall mount do you need
The wall where you want to hang your large TV must be able to support the weight. If the wall is made of brick or aerated concrete blocks, a few good anchors will suffice. If the TV must hang on a drywall, this can often cause problems; you don’t want your TV to fall off because the porous drywall loosens the anchors and screws. So investigate this carefully first.
Second point is where do you place all the cables? If you want to connect 4 devices, you already need 4 HDMI cables. Do you let them hang under your TV or do you neatly route them through a cable duct? Or even better, do you run them through a conduit in the wall so the TV hangs cable-free?
Then the height of the TV, what is the ideal viewing height? This actually varies for everyone. Do you always lie on the couch or sit on a chair by the TV? Do you use your TV a lot for gaming or is it mainly for ambiance in the living room? We have written an article about the ideal mounting height.
Finally, which wall mount do you actually need?
For mounting a large TV of 55 inch, 60 inch, 65 inch, or even 70 to 80 inch, we recommend ordering a sturdy wall mount, preferably one that can be locked.
Here are some examples of wall mounts suitable for large LCD OLED TVs with a VESA mount of 400x400. Choose a fixed wall mount (fixed position) so the TV is mounted flush against the wall. We would not recommend an adjustable tilt wall mount because TVs from 55 to 80” are already large, and even a slight tilt causes the top to jut forward about 20cm.
