Safely mount an OLED TV on a swiveling wall mount

OLED TV on a swiveling wall mount

A beautiful OLED TV deserves a good TV wall mount

A modern OLED from LG or Sony can be extremely thin. That delivers a stunning picture and a very sleek appearance, but you need to handle such a panel differently from a traditional television.

1. Do not use the corners of the screen as handles

Do you want to swivel the TV on a full-motion wall mount? Do not pull or push on a thin top corner. This puts torsion on the panel. Gently hold the TV by the sturdier lower section, as close as possible to the structure behind the screen, and move the mount arms in a controlled manner.

2. Watch out for a low-positioned VESA mount

In many thin OLED designs, the electronics are located in the thicker section at the bottom. As a result, the VESA mounting points may also be relatively low, for example around 300x200 mm depending on the model. The screen then sits higher in relation to the wall mount's pivot point.

Why can an OLED tilt forward?

When a large amount of the screen surface and weight is above the tilting point, leverage is created. With a tilting full-motion mount, this can cause the TV to gradually lean slightly forward. That does not automatically mean you should simply push the TV firmly back.

Do not do that. Forcing the screen back can damage the slip or tilting mechanism in the mount head. Check the adjustment and make sure the mount is suitable for both the weight and the weight distribution of your television.

Which mount should you choose?

Do not only look at the maximum weight capacity. Check the VESA pattern, screen size, the position of the mounting holes and how often you actually want to move the TV. If you mainly want the TV close against the wall, a fixed or ultra-slim solution may be more logical. If you want to watch from different angles, choose a high-quality full-motion mount and handle the OLED panel with care.
